Finance Committee Election 10/30/24
The 3 remaining members of the Finance Committee have been elected. They are Jonathan Coward, Mike Storer, and Nathan Skeens. These men, along with Mike Woody (our Treasurer) and the Elders will be working very soon to present a budget for 2025. If you have any budget suggestions or recommendations you’d like to submit for consideration for the upcoming year, you can email ChristBibleChurchKingsport@gmail.com or submit your proposal in writing to one of the Elders or members of the Finance Committee.
Hurricane Helene Relief Aid
Good evening church family,I wanted to provide an update and follow-up to what Damon mentioned in service this morning. I know there have been several who have voiced to me a desire to help those in our community affected by the floods, but didn’t know how to help. I hope to provide more firm details in the coming week. I wanted to start by offering a few resources that I have collected. Please keep in mind that the situation has been changing rapidly and will likely continue to change in the coming days. I will try to keep these updated as much as possible. The Northeast Tennessee Disaster Relief Center at Bristol Motor Speedway has become the primary intake for donations on their way to the distribution sites. I want to add this, as there has been a lot of misinformation out there: BMS is not a FEMA site; it is a TEMA site which is being administered by local officials in conjunction with volunteers and the National Guard, by Tennesseans, for Tennesseans. They are performing a vital service for distribution sites, allowing the sorting and packaging of materials so they can be sent to where they’re needed. Donations sent to BMS are not going elsewhere; they’re staying here in NETN. They’ve removed a lot of strain from these distribution sites, as in the early days, many sites were overrun with too many donations, too few volunteers, and it was often true that some sites had everything while other sites lacked. BMS has done a lot to alleviate that. They request that you volunteer through United Way. It takes a few minutes. It just lets them coordinate your time with their needs. Finally in regards to donations, there are a ton of them right now. Unless its something like heaters, propane, generators, or fuel, it is likely not needed at this time. There is not a current need for clothes. When I was at the distribution in Marion, we were setting clothes aside. They are a nightmare to sort, and there’s not a lot of manpower to do it.The most urgent need is manpower at this time, particularly at distributions sites. Finally, I just want to say I love you all, I am proud of our church body, and I know we can do a lot to make a difference and to be Christ’s hands, feet, and voice in the midst of the darkness.Disaster Relief and recovery is a marathon, not a sprint. If you can’t go now, don’t sweat it. There will be plenty to do next week, next month, and next year. This is by far the worst disaster I’ve dealt with, speaking from the experience of working in relief efforts for the tornados in Greeneville and Glade Spring in 2011, as well as Joplin MO and Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Each of those took years. This may take decades. All this to say your help will be more valuable as time goes on.If there are any questions you have for me, or any ways I can help, please reach out to me at 423-480-9426 or skeensnathan238@gmail.com.In Christ,Nathan10/14/24
